Occasionally in dream, you have the certain knowledge that you just know where you are. Sometimes it's a foreign country. Sometimes it's a place you used to live or knew very well - often it will strongly resemble a place you know but be different when you actually explore it. Sometimes it affects the action, the story of the dream, and sometimes it doesn't, but it's like a separate sense that tells you what area you are in, even if it otherwise has no bearing on the action.

A relatively rare phenomenon, this notation indicates an actual shift in experiential viewpoints, from one character to another. I might enter the dream as person A, but perceive another part of the story from person B's eyes. It seems to only happen in highly fictionalized dreams, where I inhabit characters who bear no relation to me, my family, or my friends.
